Appointments – New Patients
-
Your Consultant, GP or Physiotherapist can refer you to the Poynton Spine Care Institute.
-
Your referral and MRI scan are reviewed and clinically triaged. You will receive an appointment to attend for a consultation at a Poynton Spine Care @ Mater Private Network
-
This depends on the urgency of your case which is determined by our spinal surgeons following review of your referral letter and scans.
The current wait times are between 1 and 6 weeks, depending on clinical triage. Urgent cases may be seen outside these time frames.
-
You will need an MRI scan of the problem area of your spine. The scan must be within 9–12 months of your referral. We have access to Affidea and Alliance Scans online, however if you have had scans in other private centres the MRI scans need to be sent into the Institute on a CD prior to your appointment. Your GP can refer you for an MRI, or contact the Poynton Spine Care Institute and we will organise a referral.
-
Once we have you referral and MRI scan we will review your case and determine how quickly you should be seen. Patients in severe pain and those with neurological problems and serious pathology on MRI scan are given priority. Our team will do everything possible to fast track your appointment if you are in severe pain and your GP feels an urgent appointment is required.
-
Until you have been seen in the Poynton Spine Care@ Mater Private Network we cannot issue pain medication. Please discuss this with your GP.
-
If you are a patient of Poynton Spine Care @ Mater Private Network and require Medico Legal review, your solicitor can contact the office to go through the process with our administration team.
-
You will be asked to fill out a form to provide contact details for you and your GP / Physiotherapist / Consultant. With your prior permission, we will update them on your progress.
You may also be asked to fill out some assessment forms to assist in your treatment plans.
You will then be reviewed by either one of our Spinal Surgeons and/or Spine Specialist Physiotherapists / Nurses, depending on your appointment type.
Appointments – Return Patients
-
If it has been more than 2 years since your last appointment you will need a referral from your GP, Consultant or Physiotherapist. If less than 2 years contact Poynton Spine Care @ Mater Private Network and we will discuss options with you.
-
If the pain is in the same area of the spine as the surgery was performed, you will need further investigations including an MRI scan and possibly x-rays. Our team at Poynton Spine Care @ Mater Private Network can arrange this for you. Once one of our spinal surgeons has reviewed the scans a return appointment will be arranged. If your pain is coming from a different area we will need a referral from a GP, Consultant or Physiotherapist.
